On various visits to Provence I've found this species to be generally common, both in spring and summer. In flight the male is unmistakable with the conspicuous orangey flush on the upper forewing. At rest the bluey/green tone to the undersides is also rather particular. The female is more similar to the female Brimstone though I think there are some differences in wing shape and colour tones.  In the Rhône département it is an extremely unusual migrant, with occasional males wandering from their usual habitat a little further south.
