As soon as you see this species you know instinctively what it is from the huge difference in size between the spots on the underside of the forewing in relation to the hindwing. Unlike other blue species the post-discal arc of spots on the forewing curves outwards towards the margin. The basal flush on the underside of the hindwing is sometimes greenish (as the name of the butterfly would suggest) but more usually turquoise. The butterfly is fairly widespread in France but I've always considered it as very local. It tends to fly more commonly over calcareous terrain and often crops up near sainfoin plants. There's something magical about this one that really takes your breath away!!
