The flight of this species is extremely rapid and the butterflies are often seen spiralling speedily up into the air in spectacular duels. They are fairly shy and it can be difficult to get a very close up look without extreme care. The undersides are most often seen and the light brown mottling with the thick, creamy stripe near the outer edge of the wings makes it quite easy to identify. They simply love vegetable gardens and are very contented sitting on potato and courgette leaves although it's the peas and beans that they're really interested in! In the Rhône this species arrives on migration every year and may be seen at any time from late June to October but is always uncommon. The species is often attracted to bladder senna (Colutea arborescens).
