This species is quite abundant in flowery meadows. The male is a bright orange and the orange suffusion and usual oblique black marking in space 1b on the upper forewings make him quite distinctive. When looking at the whole of the upper surface, one gets the impression that the orange markings have been separated by black lines drawn with a very fine quill pen. Undersides tend to have more of a yellow feeling than those of M.athalia, but separation of the two species is unreliable from the underside of the hindwing alone.
