The Mountain Argus, or Northern Brown Argus as it is also known, is a butterfly of upland areas in its central European range. In many respects it is similar to the Brown Argus (A.agestis) though often with much reduced orange markings on the upperside which are confined to just a few blobs near the anal angle of the hindwing. The nominate form flies in Britain where identification is often aided by the presence of a white cell-spot on the upper forewing.
