Note the butterfly appears to be a yellow male through the pupal case, but a white female emerged

The male of this species is a ‘soft’ yellow and easily distinguishable in flight from C.crocea. The females are off-white and easily overlooked in the presence of other more common white species. Care must also be taken not to confuse with the white form of females of C.crocea. It is generally accepted that C.hyale and another species Berger's Clouded Yellow (Colias alfacariensis) are indistinguishable in the adult form in the wild, only the very different caterpillars providing diagnostic separation.
