This is the first photograph I ever took of a butterfly.
The ‘mirrors’ on the undersides of the hindwings of this species are striking and unmistakable. After the harvest in late summer adults can be observed basking in amongst corn stubble; indeed this represents one of the best ways of looking for this butterfly.
